      Hi elsa
In ancient times fire was thought to be an element, particularly by the Greeks who also thought earth, air, and water were elements. Now we think of an element as a pure substance, by how many electrons and protons it has. So fire is not an element as it is really a mixture of hot gases. The chemical reaction primarily between oxygen in air and a fuel, such as wood or petrol produces the flame. so you could say gas, but its all a bit unclear!

Fire is a chemical reaction, rather than a state of matter.
