      Hi Anisha,

I decided against becoming a forensic pathologist because it takes a long time to get there – it’s 5 years in med school, 2 years foundation training, then another 3-ish years specialising in forensic pathology, so it’s a long old slog! I chose to do a chemistry degree because I thought about going in to forensic science instead (and had been told it was better to do a chemistry degree than a straight forensic science degree in case I changed my mind again!).

If you really want to become a forensic pathologist, then don’t let the long training put you off – you’re a qualified doctor after 5 years and throughout your training you’ll be doing autopsies and dissections. I’m glad I didn’t do it now because my interests have changed so many times (i even changed from a chemistry degree to a pharmacology one – although I’m not so content with that decision :S) but if that’s your dream then follow it!
